Smooth Cloud Server setup

I needed a Cloud Server for a new project. The ordering process on the 1byte site was clear, letting me choose my specs without much hassle. Activation was surprisingly fast; I got the access details within an hour or so after payment, which was a relief. I had one question about the OS image, and their support team responded to my ticket in about 20 minutes, explaining everything clearly. The server itself has been stable, and I haven't had any downtime. So far, the performance has met my expectations for the price point. No complaints here.

Good deal for shared hosting

I was looking for an affordable shared hosting plan and 1byte came up. The new customer offer for Shared Hosting was pretty good, making it much cheaper than some other places I checked. The setup was straightforward enough for someone not wanting to spend a lot. Felt like a solid value for what I paid.

Consistently reliable service

I've been with 1byte for a couple of years now, mostly for Domain Registration and some VPS Hosting. This latest purchase, another domain, was as smooth as ever. The process is always quick, and the domain landed in my account right away. Their service has been consistent, which is why I keep coming back instead of trying elsewhere. No surprises, which is good.

Finally switched my small business website to 1Byte's shared hosting last week. Setup was smoother than I expected, but I'm still figuring out the cPanel. Anyone have tips for migrating WordPress sites with them?

R Ravi87 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Glad to hear it went well! For WordPress, I usually just use a migration plugin like Duplicator or All-in-One WP Migration. It's pretty straightforward, just export from your old host and import into the new 1Byte one. Works like a charm for me.

Oh, I was thinking of doing it manually. Plugins sound way easier. Thanks!

Yeah, Duplicator is a lifesaver. Just make sure your file permissions are correct after importing.

Following this, I'm thinking of moving my blog to them too. How are the speeds on their shared hosting generally?

Mine is okay, but I'm using their free CDN too.

For a small site, it's decent. Not lightning fast but good enough for the price.

I found it a bit slow during peak hours, but my site has lots of images.

I actually just did this last month. Their support was surprisingly helpful with the migration. I opened a ticket and they guided me through some of the trickier parts with the database. Might be worth a shot if you hit a wall.

Hmm, my experience with their support was a bit slow last time. Maybe it depends on the issue.

Good to know their support is responsive for that. I always worry about support with new hosts.

My 1Byte domain registration is up for renewal next month and the price jump is quite significant from the first-year deal. Anyone know if they offer renewal discount codes or if it's just full price after the initial promo?

R RahulK 1 week ago ✓ Best Answer
Yeah, that's pretty standard with most registrars. The first year is always discounted to get you in. Sometimes they send out targeted renewal offers via email, but it's not guaranteed. I usually just pay the standard rate or look into transferring if it's too much. Have you checked their promotions page recently?

N NetSurfer 1 week ago
Same here. I think renewal discounts are rare unless you have multiple domains.

I checked the site, didn't see anything specific for renewals. Just new customer stuff.

I usually just wait for their seasonal sales, like around Diwali or New Year. Sometimes domain renewals get a small bump there, but it's usually for new registrations or transfers. For just renewing, it's often full price.

W WebDevBoy 1 week ago
Yeah, seasonal sales are mostly for new stuff, not existing renewals.

My renewal is before Diwali, so that won't work for me this time.

I got a small discount once by contacting support directly and asking if there were any available. Worth a try, worst they can say is no. Just tell them you're considering transferring if there's no flexibility.

Did they actually give you one, or just tell you about existing promos?

D Deepak91 1 week ago
That's a good idea! Didn't think of just asking them. Thanks!

They gave me a small percentage off, I think it was 10%. Better than nothing!

Anyone know if the discounts, like for shared hosting, are just for the first year? Or does it carry over?

A Amber D. 2 months ago
From my experience with their WordPress hosting, the big discount is definitely just for the first billing cycle. Renews at the regular price after that.

B Beth Lindqvist 2 months ago
Yeah, pretty much all hosting providers do that. It's usually a new customer offer to get you in the door. Check the fine print, but it's almost always first term only.

How quick are their cloud servers to activate? Need something spun up ASAP for a project.

R Rosa Y. 1 month ago
Pretty fast for cloud servers. Usually within minutes after payment processes, it's ready to go. Not instant, but close.

M Mike 1 month ago
Yeah, I remember it being really quick for my VPS. Like, I went to grab a coffee and it was active when I got back. Definitely not a several-hour wait.

Thinking of getting a domain and hosting. Are their domain registration prices competitive, or am I better off getting it from Namecheap and pointing it?

E Emma P. 1 month ago
They have some pretty good promos for domains, especially if you're bundling with hosting. Sometimes you can snag a .com for under $10 for the first year.

Depends on the specific domain extension you want. For common ones, they're often competitive, especially with a new customer deal. Check their current offers, it changes.

Hey guys, thinking about moving my site to 1Byte. How's their uptime and support really? I've been burned before by '24/7 support' that takes days to reply.

J Julia 2 months ago
Uptime's been solid for me, honestly. Never had a major outage in the year I've been with them. Support is pretty quick too, usually within an hour or two for tickets.

G Gwen Lindqvist 1 month ago
Yeah, can confirm on the support. Used their chat once for a small issue and got a helpful response almost instantly. Way better than my old host.

What's the deal with payment methods? Can I use something normal like PayPal or just credit cards? I'm in the US.

T Tom 1 month ago
I'm pretty sure they take standard credit cards. Not sure about PayPal specifically for US customers, but most international hosts do.

A Andre 1 month ago
I've always used my Visa without a problem. Don't think I saw PayPal as an option when I signed up but I could be wrong, it's been a while. Credit card should be fine though.
